Castelli has a rich history dating back multiple decades in the cycling community. In the 1940s, Armando Castelli, an Italian tailor, designed clothes for Gino Bartali, a famed cyclist. Designing clothes for Gino Bartali proved to be the catalyst for Armando Castelli's career. As a result of designing for a famous cyclist, one of Bartali's cycling rivals, Fausto Coppi, asked Armando Castelli to design a jersey that would make him faster in competitions. Castelli agreed and produced the first-ever silk cycling jersey.
Ever since, Castelli has become a true pioneer within cycling clothing production. Armando Castelli constantly thought about how he could improve his products which led to adding special details such as collars, pockets, and zippers. In 1977, Castelli made another innovation: the first Lycra cycling short. With a constantly evolving company, Castelli continues to create superior cycling clothing that boasts the latest technology.
