Measure around the fullest part of your chest.
*For women, this measurement is NOT the same as your bra band size.
Hold the end of the tape at your belly button and wrap around your waist to the front.
Measure around the widest point of your hips and buttocks.
Start at inner shoulder, come down the front of the torso and go between the legs. Continue up the back to the start of the tape on the shoulder.

I have an average sized 9 year old girl. I wasn't sure which size to get so I got a 24Y (which the size chart says is for 8 year olds) and a 26Y (10-12 year olds)
Right away it was clear the 24Y was too small. We gave the 26Y a chance but it wasn't even close. She couldn't get the straps over her shoulders.
