Measure around the widest point of your hips and buttocks.
Start at inner shoulder, come down the front of the torso and go between the legs. Continue up the back to the start of the tape on the shoulder.

My youngest didn’t get to use these because they seem to run a little small, maybe a size possibly two. No complaints on the design! Also Sporti Jammers seem to be very durable. We just need change the size. Between me and my two boys we have about five pairs of different Sporti Jammers. I would recommend them to anyone as far as design and durability. I doubt most people are fast enough to notice a difference unless you are really good and swimming long races.
