by SwimOutlet.com Staff
Whether it’s splashing in the ocean or taking the next exhilarating ride in an amusement park, summer vacation always seems like an endless number of opportunities for outdoor adventures. Waterparks are especially perfect in the summer, combining the coolness and fun in water and the same adrenaline kick of a rollercoaster. At SwimOutlet.com, we love anything to do with the water, so we’ve compiled five unique waterparks across the U.S. for an adventurous day out! And, don't forget to get your supplies like sunscreen, towels and beach hats for your day in the sun!
Universal’s Volcano Bay (Orlando, FL)
Nestled inside a rainforest, Krakatau and its many waterfalls cut an intimidating figure across the blue sky. Visit the Hammerhead Beach to brave TeAwa, the Fearless River, a twist on the lazy river mimicking the chaos of whitewater rapids. Or put yourself in gravity’s hands as part of a traditional ritual celebrating the volcano god, Vol, by taking the Ko’okiri Body Plunge, a daunting 70 degree slide zipping through the volcano and dropping the rider 125 feet into the main pool. Volcano Bay (below) is sure to impress with its visuals alone!
Noah’s Ark (Lake Delton, WI)
For any adrenaline junkie, Noah’s Ark is a must-see as one of the nation’s largest waterparks, boasting 51 water slides and several other thrilling events. The Raja, dubbed the World’s Largest King Cobra, brings the riders up to 32 mph on its 335-feet long path and sends them off into an impressive 37-feet plunge. Park-goers wanting a break from the water can catch the action-packed 4-D showing of Journey 2, embark on a rescue mission, and explore the deadly “Mysterious Island”.
Kalahari Resorts (Sandusky, OH)
As an indoor waterpark, there’s no shortage of different events -- wet and dry -- to explore at Kalahari Resorts (above). For upcoming surfer-to-be’s and anyone looking for a unique attraction, the 5-foot wave simulator, Flowrider, provides a fun and safe environment to chase those surfing dreams. Alternatively, the indoor and outdoor spas offer a relaxing experience and a beautiful view of the park and outdoors. For a great time away from water, check out mini golf, mini bowling, laser tag, and multiple other dry activities.
Raging Waters Los Angeles (San Dimas, CA)
Any California native would be familiar with Raging Waters, one of the most popular waterparks in the state due to its large size and variety of creative attractions. One of the many exciting rides, Dr. Von Dark’s Tunnel of Terror, envelopes the rider in total darkness as they’re treated to furious 360 degree spins and a 40-feet drop. Kick back in the Amazon Adventure, a quarter-mile-long lazy river, for a more leisurely time in the water and enjoy the sun.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon (Lake Buena Vista, FL)
Hidden among Disney World’s four main theme parks is a quaint tropical resort at Mount Mayday, ravaged by typhoon and now littered with shipwrecks. Typhoon Lagoon’s (above) charm in its immersive design and atmosphere can be experienced in full by the scenic Keelhaul Falls ride as it traverses through Mount Mayday, caverns, and a waterfall. Catch Disney H2O Glow Night on select summer nights for a specially lit Toy Story-themed dance party, complete with a DJ, beach games, and event-exclusive food and beverages.
