Mens Brief Swimsuits
Shop men's swim briefs from Speedo, TYR, Arena, Nike, and Sporti, in waist sizes 22 through 44 and over 220 styles. Briefs deliver the lowest drag, smallest profile, and most secure fit of any men's swimsuit, built for lap swimming, racing, and travel to pools where loose shorts are not allowed.
What a swim brief is built to do
A men's swim brief is a snug racing suit with a 2 to 3 inch side seam, a built-in liner, and flat-locked seams that prevent chafing. Less fabric in the water means less drag, roughly 60 percent less skin contact than a jammer and 90 percent less than a board short. A 15 to 20 percent spandex or elastane content holds the suit in place during flip turns and dolphin kicks. Polyester and PBT fabrics give 6 to 12 months of life in heavy chlorine; nylon-spandex feels softer and faster but lasts 3 to 4 months.
Choosing your brief: practice, competition, and fashion
-
Practice and team briefs: Polyester or PBT fabrics like Sporti Solid, Speedo Endurance, and TYR Durafast Elite. Built for daily training, 6 to 12 months of life. Best for high school and club swimmers who need the suit to outlast a season. Pair with our men's swim jammers for variety in workout suits.
-
Competition briefs: Tighter compression, lighter fabric, more aggressive cut. Tech-style competition briefs run smaller, most swimmers size down 1 to 2 from training size. Race-day swimmers can also compare our men's tech suits for the fastest option.
-
Fashion and beach briefs: Quick-dry nylon-spandex in prints, low-rise cuts, and solids. Less compression, more comfort, and appropriate for European pools where loose shorts are banned. Swimmers wanting more thigh coverage often compare men's square leg swimsuits instead.
Cut, rise, and fabric
Briefs split four ways on the filter rail. Standard rise sits at the natural waist; low-rise sits 1 to 2 inches lower and reads more European. Polyester (Endurance, HydroLast, Durafast) is the long-life training fabric; nylon-spandex is softer and more compressive for racing. Recycled polyester options from Speedo and Arena deliver the same chlorine resistance with a smaller footprint. Solids dominate team suits, while prints, splices, and graphics define masters and beach use. Sizing and care, the pool-deck way
-
The waist-measurement rule: Use your true waist measurement, not your jeans size. Sizing runs 22 to 44 and varies 1 to 2 sizes between Speedo, TYR, and Arena.
-
The break-in cycle: Polyester practice briefs feel slightly loose for the first 2 to 3 swims, then tighten and hold their shape.
-
The two-suit rotation: Owning two practice briefs and alternating doubles each suit's lifespan; chlorine breaks down fastest when fabric stays wet.
-
Rinse and air-dry: Rinse in cold tap water within 30 minutes of swimming. Never wring, never use a dryer. Lay flat or hang in shade.
