About This brand

In 1949, Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company, Onitsuka Co., Ltd., by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on the famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano", which when translated expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness.

ASICS products were introduced to the United States in 1977 and brought with them an incredible story of athletic performance and technical advancements, a philosophy which still holds true today.

Staying true to the philosophy by which it was founded, every ASICS innovation, every concept, every idea is intended to create the best product. Their mission is to become the number one brand for the sports enthusiast. To accomplish this, ASICS pledges to continue to make the best product; striving to build upon their technological advances and pushing the limits on what they can learn from the body and its needs in athletic gear. They pledge to bring harmony to the body and soul.

In 1949 Kihachiro Onitsuka was manufacturing basketball shoes in his living room. Little did he know that he would eventually have created a world-renowned brand for runners and other athletes looking for quality and comfort. ASICS™ is an acronym for the Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano", which translates to "A sound mind in a sound body." And that is exactly what Asics is striving for.

To create top-performing running apparel, running shoes and other running necessities, Asics opened the Research Institute of Sports Science. In Kobe, Japan, this site is where technology and innovation go hand-in-hand to create breakthroughs in running clothes and running shoes. With over 45,000 square feet of space for testing, Asics studies everything from the movements of the human body to the durability of their running gear with a 350m all-weather running track.

When it comes to quality and "what's best for the body", Asics goes above and beyond. When Asics athletes visit the facility, Asics creates tailor-made running clothes and shoes that work with that athlete's body. From this research, Asics is able to enhance the running clothes and running shoes that they create for all athletes. Asics takes every opportunity to better their running clothes, so the athletes can better themselves.
