  • 2/18/2021 Works great

5 Review Stars By John Nilsen

This suit keeps me warm in cool water (70F) and feels great when swimming. It fits more snugly than the Cat 1 sleeveless (which I also swim in) and as such takes more effort to put on. The snug fit reduces flush and fits my lumbar curve well. Although not designed for pool use, it has held up well despite my flip turns. I will get another Cat 5 when I wear this one out.

2 Review Stars By Peter H.

I've been racing and training in wetsuits since they were invented back in 1986 when I was 20, so I know a few things about how they fit.  I was very excited to try this sleeveless Hurricane, never owned a TYR wetsuit.   I'm Male 5'-5" 147 pds.  That puts me right in the middle of the S size.  But I know better than that, so I am sizing up to a S/M which is to accommodate 153-159 pds.
Granted I am a bit broad, 39" chest, low body fat. Well, I took this think out of the box and I was like: this looks like something for a little kid.  I could barely get my leg in! Then forget any chance of lifting it up onto my shoulders. Remember I sized up to this size. I would not be comfortable even ordering the Medium, I think I would need a M/L..... A M/L probably would fit a guy that is supposed to be in a small.  Construction seemed good. They are so off on their sizing, I feel bad for SwimOutlet.com having to take returns on these.  Swimoutlet.com was great though and is my go to for swim gear.  Go to slowtwitch.com and check the reviews for the Hurricane series, more of the same.  Opted for a blueseventy reaction...sized up one size and I love it.

    5/11/2020 Open Water in COVID

    5 Review Stars By Cat

My son is just over 6 feet and about 163 pounds.  We order him a M/L and he loves it.  He is a swimmer first and maybe a triathlete later so really preferred the sleeveless. He's been out about 4 times in 57 degree water and really likes the suit.  The neck is low so not constricting and all of the edges hold to the body so there isn't drag or gaps. The different thicknesses of neoprene are great and he has not put a finger through it! Love the color design too.

  • 12/15/2019 TYR Hurricane Cat 5 Sleeveless Triathlon Wetsuit

Exceeds expectations.  For the winter I swim indoors.  Material is high quality, durable and well constructed.  Fits like a well made glove.  I have both the M/L and L sizes and both fit well.  Will use them when swimming lakes when the weather warms up.  Only thing is , as with all Triathlon Wetsuits, they should have zippers along the calves to make it easier to get on and off.

  • 12/8/2015 EXTREME SMALL FIT

1 Review Stars By Scuba Steve

I'm 6 foot, 185 lbs.  The size chart puts me at a Large.  It was so tight in the chest and back that I couldn't breathe.  I then checked the reviews on the TYR site, and found that these suits run extremely small.  Strange that the reviews here say it fits true to size.  If your 6 foot and 185 lbs., go with the XL unless you have a spoon chest.  Unfortunately swim outlet did not have any XL's available so I had to return this for a refund.  I found it on the TYR site in XL, and they were running a 20% off  sale, so the price was the same.  Waiting to get it, and hopefully it fits and works and fits great.  I need it for the Tampa Bay Frogman Swim on 17 Jan.

About This Brand

Founded in Southern California in 1985, TYR™ has since developed a reputation for high-quality products and equipment. TYR competition swimwear and triathlon gear have been a dominant force in their respective industries. The company is also known for its TYR goggles, swim apparel, triathlon wetsuits and a wide variety of swimming equipment.

TYR was the first company to introduce a pair of goggles designed to fit a woman's face (the TYR T-72). TYR was also responsible for the famous red bathing suits featured on the hit television series "Baywatch." TYR consults with current and former athletes when developing its products. Swimmers know that TYR is a leader in swimsuits, warm-up suits, and swim training equipment. The TYR Tracer Series is one of the most advanced technical suit lines on the market. The TYR Hurricane wetsuits and the TYR Torque collections include top-of-the-line suits for the competitive swimmer.

TYR has also moved into competitive running equipment. From running shirts to shorts, its apparel is designed with the runner in mind. Built with moisture wicking fabric and antimicrobial material, TYR running apparel is designed to give the athlete the most comfortable, dry clothing on the market.

The name "TYR" is derived from the Norse god of warriors, who is said to have embodied victory and glory. Much the same can be said about the athletes who started TYR. Executive Vice President, Steve Furniss, was an Olympian who competed in the 1972 and 1976 Summer Games, and captained the 76th U.S. Olympic Swim Team.
