  • 5/16/2016 Aren't there any suits that last anymore?

    3 Review Stars By NYCoach

I guess the genius with these tech suits is that they claim they are the latest and greatest and make them to have a very short, limited useful life.  We bought the suit for the championship season and got 2 meets out of it and now it is stretched out.  They are supposed to be very tight, but then, that causes them to lose their stretch faster.  There is little "repeatability" in any of them.  The first time putting it on, it took probably 30 minutes.  The next time, about 20 minutes, now it goes on like a regular practice suit.  Now we have to think of buying another for the long course championships.  Does it make the swimmers "faster"?  Who is willing to challenge that?  We swimming people are accepting this from these suit companies.  It doesn't seem like there are any changes being made to this and why would there be?  Idiots like me keep buying these suits.  Maybe I should look for something better out there.

The suit was perfect.  However, the first one didn’t have a tag, was torn and had wear marks under the armpits.  We were able to get a speedy exchange and it came in time for my daughter to use.  She loved it.

3 Review Stars By college swimmer

As a college swimmer looking for the perfect technical suit for my conference championship meet, I began my search with speedo because of my satisfaction with the company’s practice suits. This suit claimed to be “water repellent, chlorine resistant, and fast drying, creating the ultimate fit with complete freedom of motion, and reduces muscle oscillation and skin vibration”. This compelling argument made me decide to buy this suit over similar ones from competing brands.
I was not expecting the process of putting on this tech suit to be easy by any means, and I was aware that it would most likely take me about half an hour before I was comfortably wearing the suit. The “4 way flat seams” did not help make this process an easier. They may have been low profile, however, they were not as strong as advertised. After wearing this suit for day one of a three-day championship meet, the seams and fabric on the sides of the seams quickly became worn out, faded, and stretched which made me worry about the suit ripping in the days to come. Although the seams were not as powerful as I had hoped, the comfort strap definitely reduced shoulder pressure and did not bother me over the course of the meet.
The fabric was chlorine resistant as long as you rinsed the suit out after wearing it for the day. It dried extremely fast which I loved because I did not have to worry about sitting in a wet suit or having to change into a wet suit the next day. When I first jumped in the pool, I expected water to bounce right off this suit like any other expensive technical suit. I bought this suit in the black/blue color, and when I dove in and got out, I could see the water droplets dripping off of the black part, but I was disappointed to see that water had been completely absorbed into the blue leg, which is not what I paid for. The fabric of the colored leg felt different as well which could explain the issue, but if it is claimed to be water repellent, the whole suit should be water repellent and not just two-thirds of it.
A lower back and higher cut neckline was extremely comfortable and I felt secure when I dove in for my swims. It was extremely easy to adjust the top part of the suit once I got through the process of getting it over my waist. The average swimmer has broader shoulders making that area wider than most people. This suit came up very high, but it cut in so close that I was always fixing it and making sure I was covered. Also, as a smaller, but taller, person I think this brand would benefit from making this suit and others in the “long” fit for smaller sizes. If I had gotten the size up to get more fabric in the leg, the suit would have been too big and would not have served its purpose.
This suit lasted for the entirety of my three-day meet, but I do not think that I am going to be able to wear this again next season due to its low quality and ruined seams, and will unfortunately have to find another technical suit. Although I could have opted for the LZR X which has ten percent more spandex and is the latest suit of its kind, I was not willing to spend almost $500 on something I might only be able to wear for three swims. I chose the LZR Racer Pro because it was more affordable for my college student budget, however, I do not believe it was actually worth the $280 I spent.
Overall, this suit did allow me to achieve personal best times in all three of my races. I wish that it did not fall apart at the seams as easily as it did. After only three mid-distance races I was not expecting to think about having to buy a new suit for next season. It did produces less drag, increased muscle compression and made it easier to glide through the water, but to swimmers out there who are looking for an affordable and high quality technical suit for their championship meet, I would recommend looking at other options before ultimately deciding to purchase this knee skin.

  • 8/15/2020 I love this suit! Finally one that fits how it should!

5 Review Stars By Alison Z

I have been a competitive swimmer for 44 years and Speedo has always been the brand of suit that fits me the best, however I was tempted by other brands (FINIS, TYR) when looking for a new tech suit (with the hope that we get back to in-person competition and not virtual) soon. Having to return the FINIS and TYR suits that I ordered because I couldn't even get them past my thighs, the Speedo Recordbreaker took the time to put on that one would expect of a tech suit, and fit exactly how it should fit. I'm so happy to finally have a tech suit that fits, and should have known to stick with Speedo! Size 27--body size 5-6 (barely) and 135-140 pounds depending on the month

  • 2/15/2016 Bad Tech Suit

This suit was not good for breaststrokers. It made legs tired more quickly than other tech suits. Also, many people of my friend's suits ripped the first time putting it on. These suits ran small.

    4 Review Stars By anonymous

I ordered this suit for my state competition, which was a few days ago. I tried the suit on at home before the meet and it was tight which is good. At the meet, it worked well for my first day. The next day, it was really stretched out and almost saggy. It would fill up with water while I swam. If you get this suit get a few sizes smaller than your practice suit. I wear a size 26 practice suit and I got a size 22 in this. It felt big.

I have to confess to being intimidated by the thought of buying a tech suit for my daughter(s) for their first high school state meet. They were swimming against year-round swimmers (their parents knew the ropes and I knew next to nothing.) Tech suits can cost upwards of $600 and I had twins!
During a preliminary race about 2 weeks before states, one of my daughters borrowed an older version of this suit which the team lent her (stretched out from use but still had some life in it.) She really liked the suit (and Speedo) and I decided to go for it for both girls! We bought a size that seemed really small but aligned with the recommended sizing. (They take a 30 in 'regular suits' and got a 24 and a 25 in these suits.)The instructions that came with the suit were helpful and it took every bit of the 30-40 minutes that the instructions said it would take to put it on. They swam their best times ever, dropping 1-4 seconds in every event they swam.

This is the second time we have ordered this suit because it is my daughters favorite.  The first one we ordered about a year ago and it still is in great condition.  My daughter has been swimming for 8 years and is a Breaststroker.  She never liked the kneeskins because they feel restrictive.  But this suit is comfortable because of the comfort straps and way less restrictive than most.  The suit fits true to size.  She is 5 feet tall and about 100 pounds, The first suit we ordered was a size 20, this year we went with the 18.  The 18 is a little harder to get up, but once on it is perfect.  Also the material seems rip resistant to us, even with all the tugging to get it on.  Perfect suit and great value!!
