How to Choose a Bra Pad

Bust enhancement pads are used to smooth, shape, and increase the size of the breast. Bra pads come in various styles and materials, and some can be worn in and out of the water. Bra pads (inserts) are popular among women because they are discrete and comfortable, and provide an affordable (and non-invasive) alternative to bust enhancement surgery.

Benefits of Bra Pads

Breast pads allow women to adjust their breast size and shape. Here are a few common features and benefits of breast pads:

  • Waterproof inserts can be worn in and out of the water with bikini tops and various bra tops.
  • Bra pads can be easily inserted either directly against the skin or into a breast pocket in the suit.
  • Inserts are discrete and appear natural.
  • The pads are reliable. It is uncommon for them to slip out of place or fall out.
  • Bust enhancers provide confidence to women by giving them a natural looking and full breast.

Common Designs

Breast enhancer pads have many different purposes depending on the individual. Outlined below are the different types of pads and their specific functions:

  • Bust enhancer: Typically full-coverage, bust enhancers increase the bust from one to two cup sizes. They can also be used to even-out the appearance different size breasts.
  • Push-up insert: Pushes the breasts up and inward to create cleavage. Push-up inserts come in half-circles, triangles, and full-coverage pads.
  • Shapers: Add a smooth fullness to the appearance of the breast while enhancing the natural curves of the bust.
  • Post-mastectomy breast form: Inserted into a sewn-in breast pocket, these forms provide a natural looking and feeling breast.
  • Waterproof pads: Designed for use both in and out of the water, these come in both bikini tops and bra tops. Waterproof pads come in various shapes, sizes, and materials.
  • Foam pad with nipple mold: Increases the size of the breast. These are popular among women with larger breasts who want to achieve a perkier, natural breast.

Common Bust Pad Materials

Bra pads are made out of various materials including silicone, foam, and (much less commonly) gel. Most materials are waterproof, so the pad can be inserted into swimwear.

  • Silicone breast pads: Mold to the shape of the natural breast. As the temperature increases, the silicone pad acts similar to an adhesive, keeping the pad secure against the breast.
  • Foam pads: Generally are inserted into breast pockets in bathing suit tops or bra tops. The foam pad is popular because it looks and feels natural while simultaneously enhancing and pushing up the breasts. It is also lightweight and can mold to the shape of the natural breast.

Recommendations for Bust Enhancement Uses

Choose your bust enhancement pad based on your personal preference, size, and shape. Listed below are a few suggestions based on desired results:

  • Women with small breasts: Choose a full-coverage bust enhancer pad to increase your cup size.
  • Women with dissimilarly sized breasts: Choose a bust enhancer pad to increase the size of the smaller breast.
  • Women who want more cleavage: Choose a push-up insert to increase cleavage while shaping the bust.
  • Women who want to smooth the bust: Choose a shaper pad to smooth the breast and achieve a fuller bust.
  • Women who have undergone post-mastectomy treatment: Choose a post-mastectomy form pad to attain a natural looking and full breast.

Shape Up

Breast pad inserts are designed to help you look and feel beautiful in your own skin. You can wear them in swimwear or under bra cups and still maintain a natural bust appearance. So whether your goal is to achieve a fuller bust or accentuate what you have, you can find the right bra pad insert for you.

I normally wear a victoria secret bombshell bra and swim and love the look. They have discontinued the swimwear line and I'm desperate. What can I use to get the same look in my swimsuits. Please help!!!
SwimOutlet

Hi Nelda!

We are so sorry to hear of your concern.

First, you have to know that different brands use different sizing charts and even the same brand with different style because of this it would be best for you to take your actual measurements (chest, waist, hip, torso) in inches then compare them to the sizing chart of the item you are interested in.This way it would be easier for you to get your proper size for a specific suit.

We have a lot of selection but you can narrow down the result by searching using specific word/s you are looking for.

I'm 64 yrs old with small athletic shape breast-most of my breast volume is on the side-I wear wireless 34C.
Which swimsuit insert would you recommend? I want to add some volume with lift-I am 5' tall with a short torso. Thanks
SwimOutlet

Hi Rose!

We recommend going for suits with underwire support. Low-rise bottoms make your torso appear longer and halter straps draw attention to your neck and shoulders, making people skim over your short mid-section.

Can a silicone pad be worn in the sea or does it get damaged because of the salt...?
SwimOutlet

Hi Laura!

It is waterproof so it won't be damaged on sea water.

I’m pretty severely asymmetrical, on my left side I’m about an A and I’m a DDD on my right. It’s been embarrassing and extremely difficult to deal with, it’s been an issue since I was in third grade. I can’t afford surgery so I’m looking for a useful alternative to what I currently use now (socks). I’m interested in something I can wear daily and swimming. It will be nice to finally go swimming without a T-shirt on to hide my asymmetry. Thanks for reading.

Hi Robyn!

We recommend a suit or top with shelf bra wherein you can put a padding on your left to balance your chest.

I'm looking for a waterproof bra pad that I can wear while out swimming, as bikinis and full body swim wear do nothing to support my DD sized breasts. I'm also asymmetrical, my left breast being a cup smaller. This is something I've struggled with since I was about 12. What would be your recommendation?

Hi Hannah!

At the moment, we do not carry the specified pad. However, we have submitted your email address so you can receive a notification once available.

Do you have the bravo shaper pad in silicone? Or something like that? I want smoothing and shaping more than enhancing, but sometimes the shaper pads move around or bunch up in the pockets and I was hoping to find something that stays put and doesn't get wrinkled after a few wears.

Choose a bust enhancer pad to increase the size of the smaller breast. Check out our Bravo Double Shaper bra pad here-https://www.swimoutlet.com/p/bravo-double-shaper-bra-pad-8136647/?color=27223, which will add 1 cup size for a fuller more defined look.

Hi, I’m looking for something water sustainable that will support my breasts well (36B), but also conceal the appearance of my nipples. They tend to be quite visible. I also don’t have the desire to increase my breast size in any noticeable way.

Hello Kate!
We suggest using the Bravo Double Shaper Bra Pad (product code 8136647) with a one piece suit with removable soft cups. You can slip these pads into the pre-existing slits in each cup. You can also sew or pin these into any suit.

Hi I have a padded bikini top with the padding built in hence there's no liner to insert the padding. Would any of these work just to put in the bathing suite top and hope it won't fall out. I was even considering gluing them on the bikini top so they are secure . Thank you
swimoutlet.com

Hi Lauren,
I personally haven't heard of someone gluing padding to the top. I would assume it could ruin the material. It'll be very tough for the padding to stay in place if it's not inserted into the top. When it's a one piece suit then it's easier to stay in place since it's more compressed all around. I would suggest checking out some tops we offer that have the option to insert padding. You can check out our tops here https://www.swimoutlet.com/womens-fashion-bikini-tops-c9348/ It will state on the product description removable cups or something similar to this then you'll have the option to insert your own padding.

I need something to help fill out my prom dress. I'm a 34 c and the dress fits a 34d I'm 5 foot 1 and pretty slim what can I get to fill that cup size, look natural and be worn without a bra?
swimoutlet.com

Hi Paige,
We don't carry a large selection for bra pad's that will add a cup size. We currently carry one option, the Braza Swim Shaper Silicone Add A Size Pad. It might be tough to use this without wearing a bra as it may not stay in place. I would suggest checking on amazon.com to see if you can find different options.

I am have larger breast, 38D and have such a difficult time finding swimwear that support me. I am either hanging low or laying to the sides...LOL I am wondering if the pads would help. The ones that come in suits only make me look larger and do not support on the sides or underneath. My breast are not firm from weight gain and breast feeding. Could you recommend the style of top that would compliment and support me. I need something desperately.

Thank you,
Missy
