5 Quick Getaways To Florida This Spring

April 13, 2017 | By

It’s April -- but you’re wondering where the warm weather is hiding! True, some parts of the U.S. have seen some sunny and warm days recently but beach and pool season still seems too far away to start counting down the days. There’s actually a cure for this beach craving: it’s called Florida!

For West Coasters, Florida might be a bit too far away, but for most of the rest of the country -- East Coast, Midwest and South -- Florida is the perfect antidote to the spring time blues, when the weather is warming up but just not quite warm enough for swimming (besides, West Coast has SoCal and Mexico for their own beach getaways). Here’s 5 easy and quick beach getaways in Florida worth checking out if you have the springtime beach blues.

Fernandina Beach – Amelia Island’s close proximity to Jacksonville Airport might be one of its biggest draws but it still feels a world away once you get there. With two terrific resort hotels and the historic small town of Fernandina Beach right there for dining and strolling, this is the perfect spot to spend a fun April weekend.

Key Largo – Key West gets all the glory – from Hemingway to its proximity to Cuba – but the entire Florida Keys are a gem worth visiting. Save yourself the extra time driving and find a great spot on Key Largo which features fantastic fishing. Or go one further and visit Islamorada where the legendary Race Club is based!

Boca Grande – Boca Grande might not be the easiest to get to, but you have the option of flying to either Sarasota or Fort Myers airports to use as your jump off point to Gulf Coast paradise. Boca Grande is famous for its sugar sand beaches and the historic Gasparilla Inn Beach Club is about as nice as they come.  Don’t miss the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse Museum at the tip of the island

Vero Beach – They say that Vero Beach is the northernmost town in Florida that still gets the benefits of the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, the ocean current that flows north from the Caribbean along the eastern seaboard of the U.S. But aside from its nice water temperatures, Vero Beach is an unpretentious and quaint beach side town with a good mix of tourists, snowbirds, retirees and locals. Check out Gloria Estefan’s hotel Costa d’Este. Flights in to West Palm Beach, Melbourne or even Orlando work best.

Miami/Fort Lauderdale – The kings of the spring break getaway trip, greater Miami & Fort Lauderdale areas are known for great beaches, good nightlife, diverse food options and fantastic people watching. Don’t expect a quiet weekend in either town -- but you certainly won’t be bored and won’t lack for a broad range of hotel options.
