Omaha Trip Contest Winner: Inspirational and a Hero

July 05, 2012 | By

From April to June, we held our Omaha Video Contest. The videos were aimed at promoting a positive message about the sport of swimming. It was a success! Contestants were asked to submit a video responding to the question: "How has swimming inspired you?" The grand prize winner received an all-expenses paid trip to Omaha for Swim Trials (a $6,000 value including flight, hotel, 2 tickets to the meets, and $150 spending cash per day)! We received a lot of video entries. Our judges had a tough decision to make, but finally came to a verdict.

Our grand prize winner, Kelly Secor, shared a very moving story that touched all of our hearts. As a child, she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. This forced her to drop out of the sports she was involved with, including swimming. With special treatment, she recovered and was able to start swimming again! However, her mom then got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and is now going through treatments. Throughout this time, Kelly has received continuous support from her swimming family. Her sister is a triathlete too! We couldn't have imagined a more deserving family to win the grand prize!

We caught up with Kelly and her family in Omaha and took this video to share with you all. She was so excited to be there! (VIDEO BELOW)

We were even able to get Kelly one-on-one time with 2-time Gold Medalist Mark Gangloff! Mark was kind enough to meet with Kelly and her family to talk about life, swimming, being in the Olympics, and the next step in his career.

Many of the videos we received from our Omaha Swim Trials Video Contest were very inspiring and touching. Watch all of the video entries- including Kelly's amazing story - here:https://www.swimoutlet.com/
