Interscholastic Coach of the Month Award - April

2015 Apr | By

Coaches are the backbone of any swim team and frequently the unsung heroes of an athlete’s success. They are the instructors, motivators, teachers and role models for many young athletes and swimmers. That’s why it’s important that SwimOutlet.com partners with organizations like the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA). Every month, we recognize a different coach around the country for their tireless devotion to our sport and its athletes with our SwimOutlet.com Coach of the Month Award.

This month’s SwimOutlet.com Coach of the Month spotlights Judy Storie, a 38-year coaching veteran at Corvallis High School in Corvallis, OR. Congrats!

Name: Judy Storie
School: Corvallis High School Spartans
City: Corvallis, OR
Years Coaching: 38
Biggest Team Success: We have brought back numerous 2nd and 3rd place trophies over the years, but winning the Oregon 5A Boys State Swimming Championships in 2011 has to be our biggest success. Although the most memorable has to be getting 3rd at the Oregon 5A Boys State Swimming Championships in 2007 with only two individual swimmers and two relays.
Favorite Thing About Coaching: The 50+ girls and boys that come out for swimming each year come from a wide variety of abilities including students who can't swim, are autistic, have physical disabilities, up to Olympic Trials qualifiers. The team is based on personal improvement, and watching the swimmers progress as the season unfolds is very rewarding for everyone involved.
Favorite Drill for Your Team: I expect all of my swimmers to take a minimum of one stroke off the wall before breathing when swimming Freestyle. My favorite drill would have to be 1-2-1 Butterfly.

Congratulations, Coach Judy!
