Interscholastic Coach of the Month Award - September

Coaches are the backbone of any swim team and frequently the unsung heroes of an athlete’s success. They are the instructors, motivators, teachers and role models for many young athletes and swimmers. That’s why it’s important that partners with organizations like the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA). Every month, we recognize a different coach around the country for their tireless devotion to our sport and its athletes with our Coach of the Month Award.

This month’s Coach of the Month spotlights Nick Frasersmith, a 25-year coaching veteran at Regis Jesuit High School/Denver Swim Academy in Denver, Colorado. Congrats!

    Name: Nick Frasersmith
School: Regis Jesuit High School/Denver Swim Academy
    Hometown: Denver, CO
Years Coaching: Girls Head Coach - 12 years, Boys Head Coach - 2 years, Boys Assistant coach - 25 years
Biggest Team Success: 4 time State Championships 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2014; Independent School Powerpoint Champions 2013
Favorite Thing About Coaching: Working with and helping the swimmers develop and achieve their goals. It always amazes me how dedicated the swimmers are and how hard they work to achieve their goals in and out of the water on a daily basis. Seeing them come together as a team in constant support of each other.
Favorite Drill for Your Team: To work our underwaters we put a stretch cord across the middle of the pool and kick underwater under the cord off each wall.  With the cord we will also put it at the 15 meter mark and do 50's off the block. Under the cord off the star and off the turn wall. The swimmers love it...not!

    Congratulations, Coach Nick!

Check back next month for October's Interscholastic Coach of the Month recipient.
