Go Swim Combat Side Stroke with Don Walsh

I used to be an ocean lifeguard on the East Coast at Smith Point Park on Long Island back from 1978 to 1987. Now, as a 48 year old fitness swimmer, I bought this C/D out of curiousity and to see what the BUDS trainees trained with. As an ex-Air Force doctor, the background patriotic "liberty" music is never grating, but to the average person it may be distracting. This C/D is good to help one gain confidence and relaxation in the water, and I find it helps one's core immensely. It is an inexpensive way to learn a method of swimming that is great for cross training. Just don't think that this will help your cross-chest rescue technique.

Ok, I should have paid more attention, but this course is very specifically designed for Navy guys learning to pass the side-stroke test that's required for Seals. VERY specifically. Still, it's interesting and well-done instruction. Not the fitness-stroke I'd expected but a gliding-stroke with minimal arm and body movement. I can't review this without also mentioning that the background music is a MOST irritating and constantly repeating song. I appreciate that it's supposed to be inspiring and patriotic, but it's just awful. My future viewings will be with the mute button on. At least it was on sale.
