PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The principal function of the DMC Silicone Fin is to enable anyone from a novice to an Olympic standard swimmer to achieve an exact balanced kick, while using their preferred armstroke. As well as strengthening and toning the muscles, using the fins during swim training gives the legs neuro-muscular memory so that when the swimmer then swims without fins, they kick more effectively.

The DMC Silicone Fins have been specifically designed to be moulded in silicone, as opposed to rubber. The benefits of using this material far outweigh the extra cost; the silicone does not cause blisters as rubber is prone to, and the translucent colours are an attractive marketing advantage. In addition to this, silicone is denser than water which helps keep the feet below the surface - essential when kicking correctly. The actual blend and hardness of the silicone used has been the result of extensive collaboration with the moulder, the material is soft, yet resistant to tearing and splitting, and is UV proof as well.

The shape of the foot pockets has been the subject of considerable research, and along with the dedicated left and right foot fins, give exceptional comfort, and greatly reduce the incidence of cramps. The heel strap has ankle cut-outs to prevent chafing and all the edges of the foot cavity are rounded for the same reason.

The underside of the foot area has a non-slip tread pattern which makes walking round the pool less hazardous, and also means that tumble turns and diving are safer too.

The angle of the blade surface relative to the foot is different to conventional fins, and has been designed to create the least possible resistance to the kick action.

The asymmetrical plan shape of the blade allows the fin to be reasonably short and wide without the potential nuisance of the fins bumping together while swimming, or walking - another benefit of using individual left and right foot moulds.

The "V" rails along the edges of the blade have a dual function - as well as ensuring the blade is sufficiently stiff to function effectively and channel water along the blade, Hydro Sportz have patented them, which means the unique shape of the rails which gives the product its distinctive appearance cannot be copied.

• Each of the 5 sizes has a different blade / foot area ratio to make sure that it is correct for the persons size - this means the smaller sizes have proportionally longer blades relative to the foot pocket length to create the correct thrust

    Feels true to size

These fins are much more responsive than the traditional long flimsy fins most swimmers use which lag behind the kick. They are more true to the actual motion the foot makes during underwater dolphin kicking and swimming. As a result, I''ve been forced to generate more power from my torso and hips as apposed to just my legs during underwater dolphin kicking, as well as generate more power from the up-kick. They''re also a bit faster than traditional fins IMO, and easier to do turns with.

Lastly, I wear a size 11 - 11.5 shoe but ordered the Mens 8-9 in these fins. My big toe bumps against the end of the foot pocket and even has to crumple a little to fit inside, but once I start kicking the foot pocket seems to stretch slightly and all is good. They are very comfortable, leaving no blisters or abrasions

    Feels too big

I swim with a Masters group and our coach recommended these (no more Zoomers ). Love the way the legs kick in these, I can feel it up and down the whole leg.
I ordered my shoe size and they were too big so I exchanged them for the next size down and these fit perfect.

I swim laps at the Y with these fins - 1 mile (70+ pool lengths) , 4X per week.  I had tried four other (cheaper ) fins via Amazon.  I couldn''t wear any of those for more than 15-20 laps before they started irritating my feet, wearing sores or rub spots.  I returned them all.  I decided to try one more time, this time spending bigger bucks.  It was worth the money.  The silicone rubber is "full-foot" and reasonably soft.  These fins don''t irritate my feet.  Size 10-11 was perfect (just a little loose) for my size 10 feet.  If you are a lap swimmer, try ''em, you will like ''em.

In general, I think these are VG fins.  They have given me blisters, however, but far less times than with other types of fins.  I have decided to use fin socks which are great.  When using the socks with the fins, I have had no blisters, however, it makes the fins tighter since there is more bulk but I bought the fins a little bigger than my usual size anyway as my size was N/A at time of purchase.  As far as the training aspect, there was a difference in my calf muscles being used more when I first started using them.  However, I still don''t move any more forward in the water wo the fins than what I did previously, so I don''t know if the training aspect is viable. In summary, these are great fins--less blisters and not sure about the training hipe.

    Feels too big

I really like it, but it´s a bit loose on my feet. It takes sometime to get used of it, but you can make it.

Excellent fins. I wear a size 7.5 shoe. The fins fit very well, a little loose since I have a narrow foot but very comfortable. Recd my order ahead of time. The order process is very easy. I will definitely shop here again.

ABOUT THIS BRAND

Hydro

Australian Surfer's innovation and decades of dedicated development have gone into Hydro's collection of Swim and Surf Finz. Introduced in 1986, the Hydro Original Finz made a splash on the bodyboarding scene as the first surfing fin made specifically for tube riding. The Patented "V" Rail—first appearing on the Hydro Original Finz—provides an increased kick to thrust ratio and creates traction for trimming & stabilizing. Hydro continues to evolve their designs: their new Tech 2 Swim Finz are made of a super-soft silicone, and are designed not only to flex laterally, but also to TWIST during both the up and down kicks, emulating several sea animals' evolved aquatic propulsion methods. Hydro fins are now used all over the world for training and recreation, an even out in the most extreme open-water conditions by Australian Helicopter Surf Rescue Teams and Lifeguards.
