Castelli has a rich history dating back multiple decades in the cycling community. In the 1940s, Armando Castelli, an Italian tailor, designed clothes for Gino Bartali, a famed cyclist. Designing clothes for Gino Bartali proved to be the catalyst for Armando Castelli's career. As a result of designing for a famous cyclist, one of Bartali's cycling rivals, Fausto Coppi, asked Armando Castelli to design a jersey that would make him faster in competitions. Castelli agreed and produced the first-ever silk cycling jersey.

Ever since, Castelli has become a true pioneer within cycling clothing production. Armando Castelli constantly thought about how he could improve his products which led to adding special details such as collars, pockets, and zippers.
