Five Uses for Coconut Oil

You may use coconut oil in the kitchen as a healthier alternative to traditional oils, but did you know that you can use coconut oil for pretty much anything-- including beauty remedies? Surprised (we were)? Here are some of our favorite ways to use coconut oil;

1. Deep conditioning hair mask. This will melt all your hair troubles away. Apply a generous amount of coconut oil to towel-dried hair. You can melt the coconut oil by swirling around a spoonful in your hands or by running the jar under warm water. Let it sit for at least ten minutes before shampooing. The longer you leave it in – the more benefits for your locks. Once you rinse, your hair will be full of shine and moisture. And did we mention the smell of coconut? Yum!

2. Body moisturizer. Did you run out of your go-to body lotion, or maybe you want to use something that’s more natural? Look no further. Coconut oil’s creamy texture makes for the perfect moisturizer! Apply coconut oil after you get out of the shower so your skin can quickly absorb all of its nutrients. The oil will leave you glowing.

3. Makeup remover. A tiny, dime size amount of coconut oil can easily remove a day’s worth of makeup, even waterproof mascara (which quickly becomes a summertime essential). Apply the melted oil directly onto skin and massage in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water and your favorite face wash or soap. Your face will be fresh and clean.

4. Lip balm. Apply the oil directly to lips for immediate moisture relief. Coconut oil is perfect for your lips, and is said to even have a natural SPF 4 (can you say magic?). Pucker up!

5. Sea Salt Spray. Craving mermaid waves? See our previous blog post for a quick and easy DIY mix.
