Grand Canyon River Guide Mark Thatcher started Teva when he noticed many of his clients were wearing water logged sneakers. Determined to find a sandal that was supportive of an active lifestyle, he created a prototype based on his experience on the river. Little did he know these sandals would be so popular because they sold out immediately when he sold them out of the back of his van in 1984. He called his business Teva (pronounced "Teh' -vah") which means nature in Hebrew. The hand symbol logo is a Hopi symbol that stands for "friendship" and "water." Not only is Teva one of the most innovative leaders in the sport sandal industry, they are also committed to providing positive contributions the world. Teva incorporates environmentally friendly technology in their footwear and packaging- this includes recycled straps and webbing, recycled rubber, and specially formulated anti-odor and anti-bacterial devices that are safe for the environment. |
