Want to be an Ironman? Ironman® started as a contest that a group of Navy Seals had designed to test themselves by combining swimming, biking and running all in one race. The distance in each category is staggering: A 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run. That is a total of 140.6 miles, which is why an Ironman is also referred to as a 140.6. There is also an Ironman 70.3 or a half Ironman race in which the total number of miles is cut in half to 70.3 miles.
Around the world there are 23 Ironman races and 5 Ironman 70.3 races that could get you to the Ironman world championship. If you qualify to compete, you are headed to the Mecca of Ironman Kona, Hawaii. During the Kona Ironman, there are only 1,800 spots that are either won or given from the lottery. This is one of the most diverse world championships of any sport because the best triathletes in the world will be competing with people that are there by the luck of the draw.
Ironman apparel and triathlon gear is created to help you in any triathlon from an Ironman 70.3 to even the Kona Ironman. With Ironman tri suits, tri tops, tri shorts and Timex® Ironman watches, you are sure to look the part. When it comes to Ironman training or half Ironman training, don't leave it to luck. Be an Ironman.
