Bio: One of Australia’s most famous triathletes, McKenzie decided to move away from the Olympic draft-style racing to the non-draft Ironman triathlons in 2003 and first competed in the Ironman World Championships in Kona in 2006 - battling to the finish despite a stress fracture suffered weeks earlier. Since then he has continued to focus on Ironman Triathlons with his high point coming in 2013 when he was runner-up, three minutes behind Belgian winner Frederik Van Lierde. He also won Ironman Japan in 2008. McKenzie grew up on the Gold Coast, Queensland and trained at Australia’s triathlon training center for several years. Today he splits his time between Queensland, Australian and San Diego, CA , his primary training base. He and his partner, triathlete Beth Gerdes, had a daughter in 2014.
