Start at inner shoulder, come down the front of the torso and go between the legs. Continue up the back to the start of the tape on the shoulder.

my 14yo is very tall and very skinny (5'6", 100lbs) These jammers are tight on his thighs around the hem and a little loose everywhere else, so not a great fit. He pulled on the bottom of the legs to stretch them out and they are comfortable enough to use for swim team practice. If your son has big thighs they will probably pinch a bit.
