Start at inner shoulder, come down the front of the torso and go between the legs. Continue up the back to the start of the tape on the shoulder.

I bought this item as a gift and used the size chart for reference. This girl is quite petite and I sized up, and this bathing suit still couldn't make it past her knees. The quality of it was fine, but I would say to buy many sizes larger than what the chart shows.
