    4 Review Stars By Bob

This is a great option for triathlons or even duathlonns.  My order arrived on a Thursday and I did a sprint tri on Saturday and it was just right.  Form fitting but not too tight.  I wear a medium in most t-shirts and shorts, but didn't want this to be compression fit so went up a size to a large and that worked great.  Felt aero but not compression.  Comfortable for all three events.

  • 6/16/2020 Way too tight in the wast and too loose on the quads.

The item didn't fit so I had to return it.  I have a 35 inch waste and the XXL is much smaller than the Garneau tri-shorts I need to replace.  So the fit just isn't right.  But they seemed like nice tri-shorts so I gave them a four star rating.

  • 10/21/2019 These are NOT Cycling Shorts !

2 Review Stars By M. Hackstadt

Sizing runs small. I am 5'-11, 34"-35" waist and purchased these large shorts. They did fit, but very high compression, reflective of a "performance fit" as advertised. Ordered another pair in XL which fit much better, and I sent the  Large pair back for a second XL. Material is very thick thick, and the shorts are well made. Very uniform in the compression. Leg bands are very wide, and the waist is secure. The issue is the area and thickness of the chamois. Most bike shorts I have worn do NOT offer the compression offered by these shorts, so I have always worn an athletic supporter with my bike shorts. With these shorts the chamois will cover what needs to be covered, but it is NOT wide enough to cover the straps of an athletic supporter. I rode 25 miles and got very sore at the inside of my leg where it intersects the hip, where the strap of the athletic supporter crossed. Reading the various blogs would indicate these shorts are NOT to be worn with any undergarments. After a day off I rode the same 25 mile route without any undergarments of any kind and did NOT experience any chafing. The ride was much better. In wearing these shorts for a pure cycling application you essentially have NO padding. As long as you are in a position where you are aggressively pedaling, forcing a larger portion of your weight to be carried on the aerobars and your legs these shorts are great, but once you attempt to relax, and just ride you will really start to feel it. There is very little road isolation, and I ride a bike with a Titanium frame and a carbon fork ! I am not a big fan of thick padding, and in fact my old shorts only have chamois which appears to be like what you would use to polish your car, but the coverage is more extensive than with these shorts. The chamois in these shorts appear to lack the wider "wings" which run down the inside of your leg. These shorts are NOT built for cycling comfort. The chamois does NOT cover your "sit bones". The padding is VERY narrow. When you sit on a flat wooden chair there is NO chamois contact. The chamois on the Zoot shorts is designed for a very narrow racing type bike saddle. I have a relatively narrow 153 mm Specialized saddle, and I DO have chafing protection with these shorts as long as I did not wear any undergarments, but if you had a more recreational type of saddle there would be no getting around chafing; athletic supporter or not. My second pair of XL shorts which are replacing the original pair of Large Shorts should be delivered today or tomorrow. These shorts will not even be opened, and will be sent back. It is unfortunate the true downfall of these shorts could not be determined until they were wore and sweated in enough that they can not be in good conscious sent back (even though I really have not asked). Some would say this is just the difference between bike and Triathlon shorts, but think not. I want to try and keep with Triathlon shorts because of the 7" inseam. I just do care for the 9" and 10" inseam lengths found on men's cycling shorts. The bottom line, the Zoot shorts are well made, but for me they are a disappointment. The Larger (XL vs L) Zoot shorts fit very well, but they will only be used for work outs and riding a stationary bike. In my opinion are they not really suitable for long distance road cycling.

Good fit, quality materials and construction, like the 7" length. Performs well in the water, on the bike and when running.

Quality just isn’t there anymore with Zoot. The padding they use now is not the same what they used in years past. After 30 minutes, can really feel the bike seat. Not good.

About This Brand

Zoot Sports™ was founded in Kona, Hawaii: the home of the Triathlon World Championships. Chrystal Nylin, a Hawaiian native, recognized the need for a cross-functional suit for athletes competing in triathlons. As a solution to having to use transition as "changing areas," she sought to find product solutions for multisport athletes.

Nylin began sewing pads into run shorts, experimenting with swim fabrics, and attaching run singlets to bike shorts to eventually create the Zoot one and two-piece racesuits for triathletes competing in Ironman.

In 1996, Zoot Hawaii moved to the mainland and expanded the product line. It has now grown to be a global premier endurance sports brand, distributed across 22 countries and has introduced the first Triathlon-Specific Footwear Line. Zoot continues to draw on its history in the sport and its athletes to deliver the most comprehensive, technologically-advanced and complete multisport product line in the world.
