Measure around the widest point of your hips and buttocks.
Start at inner shoulder, come down the front of the torso and go between the legs. Continue up the back to the start of the tape on the shoulder.

I am used to competition suits with high leg openings and more exposure than a beach "bathing suit". This suit, however, had such a low cut in the back that there were several inches between the suit and my tan line from other suits. I also felt the leg opening exposed more of my butt than I'm used to. Otherwise the suit was just fine and I was sorry I had to return it.
