  • 6/26/2012 Great Training Programs!

    5 Review stars By Julie

I started using it while I was training for my first half marathon. The coach who feels like he is literally running with you had me doing all types of different runs. It made running exciting for the first time in my life. I highly recommend this to anybody who needs a little motivation to get out and start exercising and wanting to do it the correct way.

    5 Review stars By Curtis

I am not a runner and could not even run a mile let alone a 5K. I was having trouble getting to a point where I could run a mile, so I bought this product based on word of mouth and extensive internet and magazine article research. I purchased in August of 2011, and participated in a Triathlon (ROTB) Feb. 2012.

Because I could hardly run I started out with Jenny Hadfield's 0 to 5K, and it was really great. You begin by running and walking. Jenny's pre-recorded voice comes on to give you advice, encouragement and best of all the system monitors your heart rate. It is a heart rate based system and the work out plan(s) place you in the proper heart rate zone (HRZ) each time you run. The system will put you through a Heart Rate Zone Test and will calculate your HRZs based on this easy walk/run test. During your actual training plan it is no big deal if you are not in the right HRZ, but the system and coach (Jenny or Jeff Fitzgerald) tell you to slow down or speed up so you can maintain the target HRZ. They also give you tips on how to run properly like the paw-back method, water consumption, use your abs, etc. The runs are not all the same, most are tempo runs, but mixed in are interval runs, fast finish, and fast in the middle runs, all based on your heart rate zones.

Now I use the system for more advanced running and cycling plans and will do a 1/2 marathon in 2014, as well as more Sprint and Olympic distance Tri's. This unit did the trick for me in the running area.

I purchased the version with the iPod nano, music helps keep your mind occupied as well as the coaching tips. When the coach comes on the music fades out for instruction, but you can also get your HRZ, pace, distance and calories anytime by pressing the ear bud button at anytime. Again, super product I highly recommend it, especially for those who train alone. I wish they had one for swimming to provide: HRZ, stroke and kick, pace, and distance. Hopefully in the future, I'd definitely buy it!
