  • 12/22/2012 Love my Nu Dolphin!

5 Review Stars By Kathy N

Bought one for myself a few years ago.  Love, love, love it. When I first started using it, I didn't realize you have to really cram the ear buds into your ear canals so I couldn't hear the music very well.  Thank goodness for a review with that tip! Without my Nu Dolphin I get bored after a few laps but now I could swim forever.  Easy to use and download music. Decent price  Bought this one for my daughter.

  • 6/9/2009 EXTREMELY HAPPY!

    5 Review Stars By AquaDog

I did a lot of looking around with speedo, finis, nu dolphin and some of the other MP3 players out there.  I even ordered the Finis bone induction since it had more reviews than this brand new or the original dolphin saying how great the Finis is.  The things didn't even work out of the box!  RMA please!  Not to mention the shoddy plastic construction.  However, the "new" Nu Dolphin set is really fantastic!  Just the design and construction lets you know that these things are built to last.  The screw on headphones is a definite plus.  The factory "in the water" headphones are awesome as well, good comfortable fit and the sound quality is really nice (face it, you are in the water) for what it is designed for.  The touch portion is better than the original dolphins controls and the player is really packed with a lot of features for something you hit "play" on and start swimming.  I cannot see myself using these for out of the water use to much but it is available to me with the "out of the water" headphones it comes with.  Those are not very good at all for quality and you cannot use a standard set of headphones either.  As far as use in the water, these things are really awesome, it comes with a built in EQ for different styles of music (jazz, rock, plain etc..) which is really nice.  It has a shuffle, repeat one, repeat all function, a "lock" that locks the player when not in use for a set number of seconds.  This can get kind of annoying if you "wake up" the player, you basically have to push the power button on the end which pauses your music to change any settings or advance to any songs.  The HUGE 4gb storage is terrific and the largest I've found in this market.  (if you can swim for 8 hours of music good on ya)  The ease of connecting to a USB on your PC or MAC is very easy.  This thing does work on Vista 32bit or 64bit and is as simple as drag and drop.  One thing to make sure is that right out of the box when charging on your PC is to ensure you plug the plug in ALL the way.  Out of the box the seals are obviously new and very tight.  Never thought I'd screw something like that up, but it will NOT register if that cable isn't seated all the way in the player.  Use in the water is wonderful and the headphones stay in my ears. The goggle connectors work really well with it staying on my head, I don't feel it when swimming.  The quality in the water is nice and the volume has a really loud capability and I've failed my last two hearing tests (probably because I had my headphones to loud) but I have no problem hearing both headphones with the volume half way up.

All in all, I am extremely pleased with my selection.  I did purchase the optional headphone package that comes with a longer corded earphone set and 5 replacment ear buds that will wear out with chemicals and not remain in your ears, I think SwimOutlet carries the package for $18, not a bad price at all for what you get.

I am an avid swimmer that does 4000 meters a day five days a week and in the water for about an hour and half each time.  These things are really great and highly recommend these to anyone that is on the edge with making a selection.  I did have some reservations about purchasing something made in the Netherlands from what I understand, but there is a number in the documentation for an office in California which I did call for help with connecting to the PC and the customer service rep was very helpful and actually picked up the phone!

Also, if you are on their website it does NOT contain a lot of information about this product, another reason I was hesitant on purchasing them.  But the features are very easy to learn and as long as you understand this isn't an IPOD touch but a way to take the boredom off of doing long swim times with decent quality music, it really is a great choice of MP3 player for the water.  I'm completely satisfied.  Not to mention the fast processing and shipment from SwimOutlet!  Happy swimming all!

  • 12/13/2012 Difficult to use

1 Review Stars By Sharon D.

I was able to download the music without difficulty but had to get a neighbor to figure out how it worked.  The next day I still couldn't use it - nor could my husband. I returned it.   Directions were printed way too small for those who wear glasses.

Touch screen is too sensitive. Powers off in the middle of a song. Battery life is terrible. Buttons used for multiple purposes. For example the power button is also the enter and pause buttons. I don't recommend this what so ever.

  • 6/22/2009 Not for me

2 Review Stars By Eric H.

Buttons are impossible; too hard to figure out and to change settings during a workout; earbuds stick out too far to stay in place with or wihtout a cap.

I expect that some fitness swimmers will love this but I doubt that many competitive swimmers will be willing to suffer through the aggravation of earbuds falling out during a set, impossibilitiy of changing settings quickly, etc to justify using it.  The "touch" featuire is an especially bad idea for swimmers since you cannot change any setting wihtout taking it off and drying it thoroughly.  posi-clik waterproof buttons are a far better way.

Once I realized I needed to find the right earpiece for MY ear, It helped with the clarity of sound in the water while swimming.  I think there needs to be better (more clear/specific) directions on "how to use" the device!  I really enjoy having this new toy to swim with!

  • 6/30/2009 It is working OK so far; a bit hard to use

3 Review Stars By Mac Daddy

Got it for lap swimming and have only used it 2-3 times so far. It is still working - no water problem thus far. Issues or concerns are as follows: 1. Menu options are complex given just a few key inputs. You could say it is a user problem, but if you do not use it often it will be hard to memorize the operations. 2. Impossible to read the little screen in the pool in the sun. Maybe the contrast settings will help if I can figure out how to use that function in the pool without the instructions handy! 3. Battery indicator shows less than full charge even though I fully charged it the day before (without intervening usage). This worries me that the battery is not working right. This review may be a bit critical; it does work as advertised. I have not tried the radio. I am noticing that swimming the crawl is harder to sync with the music than say running or biking. My kick can match the music but the tempo differential to my arms feels weird, at least so far. My normal faster tempo work-out music seems ill suited for my relatively slower arm strokes. Given the difficulty thus far using the music to swim to a beat I am concerned that I may just prefer the sound of the water while swimming rather than music. Sometimes quiet is better. I have an Ipod already so may have wasted money getting a cool waterproof music player. More experimenting and time will tell.
