5 Review Stars By Pro fan

I have several manduka mats and a couple of pros in different colors.  I purchased this one as a gift.  Love the color and know it will be slippery for a while, but patients is key.  Will suggest major salt scrubbing and lots of wear to break in this beauty.

    3 Review Stars By Nikki

So, during the process of reading reviews all across the internet, which yields MANY positives but one repetitive negative, I still decided to choose the Manduka Pro mat over the competition. With that said, I'm not unhappy with the mat. It's true, the Manduka mat is slippery. I have trouble in basic positions such as the downward-dog. You physically don't slide all over the mat, and you can't actually see your hands slipping....but you feel it and are constantly re-adjusting. I half expected to experience this, but I didn't know how frustrating it would be. There are many "hacks" and reviews that state that use over time will fix this issue, so I'm absolutely not worried in the long term.
The mat itself is great. A very good thickness that I'm comfortable with that provides support and cushion when needed but also allows me to feel connected to the ground. The mat does not move or slip as I'm changing positions and has handled well with any sweat (not a lot). I've read this mat is not appropriate for hot yoga, so I wouldn't recommend it for that use.
Even though I'm frustrated with my mat in the present I look forward to when the slippage wears off and I'm able to get good grip and years of usage out of it. The reason for my 3 stars is that no matter how much potential a mat has, for someone who practices yoga, I don't believe we should have to sacrifice weeks/months of our practice to break a mat in. They either need to fix this during the manufacturing process or find a way to counter act the result of the manufacturing process before it reaches consumers :) Best of luck!

Yoga mat is perfection.  Just what I've been looking for in balance and thickness.  Great for at home practice and car culture to class ... would be very heavy to travel via subway!

  • 3/17/2013 Manduka Black Mat Pro

    4 Review Stars By Jeannette108

Great mat, padded enough to be easy on the knees, but not so padded that balance poses are difficult.  My only complaint about this mat is that the slippery film doesn't want to come off easily.  I did the vinegar rinse on it as instructed and am now using it with regularity to get the film off. The first time I used it I was reminded of a Slip & Slide. Also, this mat is seven pounds so I recommend getting a mat bag or sling.

  • 12/12/2017 Big, thick, firm Manduka Pro

    4 Review Stars By yoga-guy

Same quality, thickness and support I'd expected from Manduka Pro.  My 10 plus year old Pro isn't showing any wear whatsoever, needed one for my wife who has finally joined me in yoga practice.   Only concern is it seems a little less sticky, i bit more slippery, than I remember a new one being but hopefully after breaking it in it will be perfect.

  • 8/5/2017 1 inch short

    1 Review Stars By Julia

Manduka mats are great...the density of the mat makes a big difference on joint pain / protection in various poses. However, this mat is a full inch short: 71 inches instead of 72, as advertised. I'm a tall girl, so this matters to me. This was my first time purchasing from yoga outlet, so maybe all their inventory is defective and hence the discount? But the product description said 72 inches and I would've paid the extra money for that extra inch.

    2 Review Stars By sue

I spent the extra money thinking this would be the last mat I would ever need. It is a good cushion for my knees - but my hands slip in downward dog every time. I use a cheap mat on top so I wont slip Sorry about this purchase

  • 10/12/2017 thick and sticky

    5 Review Stars By cypress

I love this mat, I have bought many cheap ones, and I am glad I spent the extra money for this, it is thicker than most I have come across and holds my hands and feet in place. Happy to have a special mat to practice on-

2 Review Stars By sara t.

I called Yoga outlet, wanting to buy a manduka mat.   I asked what they would recommend if I wanted to get away from using a mat towel. They recommended the pro, and it shipped quickly… When I received it I was excited to use it but found that it was extremely slippery! I've done to salt scrubs, and used it a dozen times trying to break it in.  It is still very slippery and dangerous. I called manduka, they told me that the eko Standard Matt is what they should've recommended to me.  I called Yoga outlet and they would not sell me the correct mat for the same price… I'm very disappointed with their lack of customer service and regard for their customer.  I guess I will have to spring for another mat, the manduka eko seems like the right one after talking to manduka.  Bummed.

ABOUT THIS BRAND

Manduka

Founded at the turn of the millennium, Manduka® has always been a company that put its customers and the environment above all else. Peter Sterios, an architect turned yogi, stumbled upon a simple, yet elegantly created mat that completely revolutionized the way he practiced yoga. This revelation was the inspiration for the whole Manduka yoga line.

Sterios' creation would not have been possible without the help of his generous yoga teachers. As a form of appreciation he sent a mat to many of the yoga teachers he admired including Rod Stryker, Erich Schiffmann, Victor Van Kooten, Angela Farmer, Rodney Yee, and Shiva Rea. As a traditional practice in yoga, these teachers shared these mats with their students and from there the word spread.

Manduka, derived from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika pose, Mandukasana, is named as a tribute to Sterios' yoga mentor, Shandor Remete. The delight he took in hearing the word roll of his tongue helped him solidify the faith he had in his new company. From there the joy has spread to over 35 countries worldwide.

More than anything though, Manduka's commitment to quality and sustainability is unmatched in the yoga industry. Every detail and every decision is made with sustainability in mind. Manduka wants their customers to not only find peace with themselves, but their environment as well. Products like the Manduka eKO Lite Yoga mat, the eQua Hot Yoga Towel, demonstrate just how committed they are to sustainability.

Manduka understands that yogis of all levels come from diverse backgrounds, but they all share similar core values. Beyond just being eco-friendly, is the spirit and wisdom that yoga teachers and their students emanate. Yoga is more than just exercise on a mat, it's a way of life. Manduka embraces this idea and lets it shine through all their yoga products.
