5 Review Stars By Melissa I.

I have worn the white skin cooler wings for years.  But when my team switched to a racer back black top that left some skin exposed on my back, I realized I needed the long sleeve top.  I ordered the black long sleeve top before a 100 degree, high sun cycling 100k rally. I normally wear a medium top in most brands, but ordered a Large based on comments.  The large was perfect. I'm a fan of the fabric to keep cool when water can be applied in Texas.  If I spray water on my arms it truly helps to cool me.  I would recommend the white version if your event has extreme, high sun potential on a bike.  On a running event, I could have equally sprayed both arms with water.  But on a bike, it was tough to equally cool the right arm and I noticed the heat on that arm more than I have ever noticed it with white skin cooler wings.  I have worn my white ones in Galveston 70.3, Ironman Florida 140.6, and Hawaii 70.3 and for training.  The problem with white is that race numbers tend to rub off on the inside and they look dirty.  I plan to use my white ones only for the 95 degree and hotter races and rallies with my cycling jersey.  The black fabric will be my preference when extreme heat is not the issue because it looks cleaner.  I wore the long sleeves under my team racer back top so that my team could still see me.  My body was never hot.... just noticed the sun heat on my arm.  I did not sunburn at all  during the event.   Highly recommend the long sleeves as a base layer under  a racer back top.  Order bigger than usual. I'm happy with my order since I ordered bigger than usual.  I assume a medium, my usual top size in Pearl Izumi & Sugoi, would not have worked.

    Fit: Feels too small

  • 2/21/2014 I like the fabric

I bought Medium and Small for this product. The small I thought maybe it was a bit too small as it is really snug but the medium was definitely big! I kept the small and just used it yesterday to go out cycling and I LOVED IT! it's truly fresh. It is tight yes, so you better have a good body to show off otherwise, get away from this product. I love the fabric and I already have the wings from the same brand so I know in time it will loosen up a little bit and it will be more comfortable. I'm 5.6, 116lbs (tall and thin), chest 34, waist 26.

  • 5/28/2011 DeSoto Women's Skin Cooler L/S RUNS SMALL

2 Review Stars By Carol J.

Doing a hot tri soon. I didn't want to fry in the sun. Did some research and really really wanted the L/S shirt vs sleeve coolers or just sunscreen alone.

Was very excited about the 3 pockets down the spine, one reviewer says to have aid station workers put ice in the top pocket! Sounded great.

HOWEVER - This top is SO DARNED small I laughed out loud when I opened the package. I'm female, typically wear a M in most everything (top 34-36B), with the occasional L in some items. I ordered a L b/c I wanted to be sure I could get it on when wet and didn't want it to be overly tight.  On a hanger this item appears as a SM or XS sizing. Ridiculously small. It's going back and I honestly question de soto's sizing practices and, therefore, any future de soto purchases on my part. Can't review the performance b/c the fit was such a problem. FYI - de soto says (on their website) I'm an XL (unfortunately I checked after my purchase) - Swim Outlet doesn't even carry the XL if I had the time to exchange before my event - which I don't.

Swim Outlet as usual had quick delivery and good pricing. Unfortunately for them, they carry de soto. Bought some Zoot items at the same time. All fit as expected. Bought a M top. Fits fine. So what is de soto thinking? Hopefully their Men's sizing is more realistic.  Really turned me off to the de soto brand in general.

I gave it 2 stars only b/c the item fabrication seemed as represented.

The founders of DeSoto are Emilio De Soto and Dan Neyenhuis. Emilio De Soto is a triathlete who is racing in his 27th consecutive season of triathlon competition. He is also fully immersed in his athletic lifestyle as a fitness trainer and coach. Dan Neyenhuis is an age-grouper triathlete who has been helicopter skiing for 20 years. Together, they created a company that designs cutting edge triathlon gear for triathletes, by triathletes.

DeSoto gear is designed to enhance performance in each leg of the race. The founders created the first mesh running cap, zippered tri tops, pocketed tri shorts, transition packs, tri suits, and tri shorts with discreet pads for cycling.

One of their other achievements was creating the DeSoto T1 triathlon wetsuit that is two pieces instead of one. The DeSoto T1 triathlon wetsuit was designed to make a better fit for triathletes, and each year, more DeSoto tri tops and DeSoto tri shorts are being added to the line. DeSoto is still the only company in the world that makes a two-piece triathlon wetsuit.
