great snorkel....if you are already deaf.
This snorkel is interesting in many respects, great in some. Here are the great ones: -mouth piece is very comfortable -once adjusted correctly on your head it does provide effective air exchange -has a high "geek factor" if you like that The aspects that are not so great: -takes time and reading the instructions carefully to put this on your head correctly. -the exit breath bubbles explode against your ears in a way that will probably cause hearing loss if used for any length of time. The manufacturer says in the instructions to wear a cap for the best fit. While it probably did fit a little better for me with a cap but I think part of the reason they suggest a cap was to reduce the noise. Even with a cap and earplugs it was still too loud. The instructions also advise not exhaling thru your nose. I tried that just to see if it would reduce the noise. Not much reduction in noise but then the bubbles come right up against your goggles and you lose all visual. They do not say any of this in the instructions. So, in the end it is an interesting product that has a wonderful mouthpiece. The novel and proprietary valve for air exchange is hopefully a work in progress. I spent over 100 bucks for this item and unless you are already deaf and blind, there are cheaper ways to lose your hearing. The best snorkel I have ever found for lap and open water swimming is the ScubaPro shotgun. I cannot find another but would love any leads.
