My hips are 41 inches, I typically need a large in bottoms (XL is always too big, mediums are usually a bit too snug). These were 1-2 sizes small, unflattering because skin and fat poked through the side straps (a lot) and they dug into my bum and had an awkward cut. Try Vince Camuto fiji bottoms, they are a similar style, true to size, and very flattering (no muffing top!).
