Interscholastic Coach of the Month Award - January

Coaches are the backbone of any swim team and frequently the unsung heroes of an athlete’s success. They are the instructors, motivators, teachers and role models for many young athletes and swimmers. That’s why it’s important that partners with organizations like the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA). Every month, we recognize a different coach around the country for their tireless devotion to our sport and its athletes with our Coach of the Month Award.

This month’s Coach of the Month spotlights Dennis Neat, a 28-year coaching veteran at Forest Hills United in Grand Rapids, MI. Congrats!

    Name: Dennis Neat
    School: Forest Hills United
    City: Grand Rapids, MI
    Years Coaching: 28
Biggest Team Success: We've been in the Top 4 twice in the past 8 years and in the Top 10 seven of the past 10 years at our state championships.
Favorite Thing About Coaching: I love the opportunity to watch 14-18 year olds grow into a sport that is individual, works on time management skills, goal setting, improving ones self-esteem and learning to work together for success as a team.
Favorite Drill for Your Team: Touch-outs. Starting at mid-pool, team members to race side by side in their lanes and sprint and try to touch their teammate out.

    Congratulations, Coach Dennis!

Check back next month for February's Interscholastic Coach of the Month recipient.
