Fall & Winter is a great time for Swim Classes!

By United States Lifesaving Association, a partner

The United States Lifesaving Association reminds all of us this fall – especially parents – that it is always a good time for swim lessons! Indoor swim classes are great for a winter activity.

As the cooler season approaches in northern climates, there may be less outdoor water activity, but it’s a great time to get kids to the pool to teach them to swim. Learning to swim is the first defense against drowning. Teach children to swim at an early age. Children who are not taught when they are very young tend to avoid swim instruction as they age, often due to embarrassment.

Swimming instruction is a crucial step to protecting children from injury or death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by as much as 88% among young children aged 1 to 4 years, who are at greatest risk of drowning. Visit your local YMCA or download the American Red Cross Swim App to your phone or tablet. Inoculate your kids against drowning. Teach them swimming and water safety!

Type your comment hereI think it's a great idea to teach kids to swim at an early age. Accidents can happen anytime and any place and it's important that your child know some skills to keep themselves safe. My brother fell into the pool when we were young and he almost drowned, so I definitely know the benefits of a child knowing how to swim!
