After 48 years of teaching and coaching swimming, David Thomas is a master teacher and an authority on "watermanship"—the ability to be one with, and at home with, the water.
In his new video, Water is Friendly, Thomas shows you that water is friendly and swimming really is easy. By teaching your students and other aquatics professionals the five basic fundamentals outlined in this video, anyone can learn to swim—male or female, young or old, fat or thin.
Throughout this 34-minute video, Thomas explains and demonstrates in an entertaining, yet relaxed and easy-to-follow manner:
• Buoyancy - how your body composition simplifies the task of staying on the surface • Balance - how to keep your face in a position where you can breathe • Body position - how balance achieves body position • Breath control - how controlling your breathing can help you stay afloat as long as you want • Relaxation - how learning to relax can make swimming easier and more enjoyable
After learning these five fundamentals, Thomas then shows you how easy it is to incorporate these basics into various swimming strokes—such as the crawl stroke, breast stroke, and the butterfly—thus making these so called "difficult" strokes very easy to accomplish.
Water is Friendly can be used in many different ways. It is a superb instructional video to show to beginning swimmers, ages junior high through adults. It is also ideal for using in WSI classes, lifesaving courses, or for your personal viewing to give you ideas for how to teach floating techniques to young children. Whatever its use, the video is sure to convince any viewer that swimming really is easy!
