I bought these for open water swimming.  They really do have the look of socks and the treads are a nice feature so as not to slip on slick, wet surfaces.  So far, I have only tried in a pool, but they do the trick of keeping my feet warm.  I had to buy SMALL since XS was not offered. I am W 6.5. Small size is fine, but might have preferred XS.
