I am a casual jogger who runs for fitness. I was pleased at how well these shorts fit - all too often, shorts that are large enough in the hips are too small at the waist or at the leg opening. Not these puppies! I have a 35" waist, 47" hips, and 27" thighs (at widest point) and I ordered a 1X. These shorts fit very well in all areas. If I had to improve anything, it would be to make them 1/2" longer. This is no big deal though.
