Named after founder and surfer Rusty Preisendorfer, the philosophy of the Rusty™ brand is all about surfing. Rusty grew up surfing in the San Diego area and began shaping surf boards by the early 1970s. When he was starting out, Rusty shaped surfboards for 10 out of the top 16 surfers in the world under the Canyon™ label. Peter Townsend, a world champion surfer, suggested Rusty create his own label and that is when the "R-dot" or Rusty label was born.
Rusty expanded his collection of surfboards to include apparel and at the January Surf Expo in 1987, his R-Dot logo became a widely recognizable symbol throughout the surf world. Rusty's fresh look at the youth market is one of the reasons it has remained a leader in the industry for so long. Rusty board shorts, Rusty hoodies and Rusty rashguards are all top-of-the-line surf wear products that proudly delay the R-dot.
Even after all of the growth Rusty Preisendorfer's business has seen in the last twenty years, Rusty continues to dedicate himself and his team to evolving with and around the evolution of surfing. For example, the Rusty wired series has headphones in the draw cords so you can plug in your music player and pop in your ear plugs. With no headphone wires in the way, your Rusty wired rashguard or Rusty wired hoodie is a great example of how Rusty is staying ahead of the competition.
