  • 8/20/2013 Best shorts for long mileage!

    rating star By Kelly S.

This is my second pair of Desoto 400 milers (the first pair is still kickin but after thousands of miles I thought a second pair wouldn't hurt) and I love them!  I do a ton a riding on some not so well paved roads and these shorts leave me discomfort free every time!  If you're planning on logging a lot of miles, these are well worth every penny!

  • 6/6/2013 By far the best long-distance shorts

    rating star By LBB

Though DeSoto 400 Mile shorts have a great reputation in the endurance cycling community, they are generally hard to find.  This is my fourth pair, and certainly worth the higher price for the comfort and durability they offer.  I'm now training for a double century, and with so much time spent in the saddle it is imperative not to get saddle sore.  The chamois in the 400 mile shorts is dense so you don't look like you're wearing a diaper, yet it offers a comfortable fit and does not rub or bunch up.  The style is somewhat simple (DeSoto should offer more color options in this short), but basic black matches everything and the fit and comfort make it all worthwhile.  Make sure to butter up that chamois and you're good to go for miles and miles!

  • 2/14/2013 Love them!

    rating star By Karen

I bought a pair of these last year for my first Ironman 70.3. Best bike shorts I've ever worn. (I'll be honest, I've only tried 2 other brands. Brands you would definitely know.) These are so much better. They are comfortable to swim and run in as well. I wanted a second pair and wouldn't you know, they were on sale, so I purchased 2 extra pairs!

  • 9/22/2012 Great tri shorts!

    rating star By Karen

I really love these bike shorts. I purchased them while training for my first half Ironman. They are quite comfortable to wear and don't cut off the circulation in your legs. Up to then I could not find shorts that were comfortable on longer rides. I don't think any shorts are perfect in that department, but these are far better than anything else I've found. I actually laughed out loud when I read in the description that they were "bouyant". Guess what, they are bouyant! I wore them under my wetsuit, call me crazy, but I really think they made a difference! I was also concerned with running in bike shorts, but honestly, I could hardly tell the difference. Great shorts!

  • 3/5/2011 Best Cycling Shorts EVER!!

    rating star By BikeMom

I am a cyclist and triathlete, and I've worn MANY brands and types of bike shorts.  These shorts are the best by far!  I've done 5 hour rides in these shorts with no issues.  I also wear Desoto Carrera tri shorts, which I also love.  In response to previous reviews, you have to start with a good saddle and a good bike fit before you can review shorts.  The padding on the shorts is not going to make your saddle feel better.  They just absorb shock.

That being said, here is what I like about these shorts.  First, the chamois is awesome.  Not too bulky and not too thin.  It moves with you and is made for a WOMAN.  That is VERY important.  Second, the quality is excellent, and Desoto stands behind all their products.  Just contact them if you have a problem.  Third, these shorts do not have leg grippers.  Most women do not like leg grippers because they squeeze your legs too much.  I've never had issues with shorts riding up, so I've never seen the need for leg grippers.

A few things to note about these shorts are 1. They are made of a compression type fabric.  You might want to size up if you don't want them squeezing too much.  I like the feel, but some aren't crazy about that type of fabric.  It is a very lightweight fabric, which is great when it's hot.  There is a drawstring, so you don't have to worry about the waist being too big in most cases.  2.  They are a longer length short.  They are not SUPER long, but I typically like my shorts a bit shorter (like my tri shorts and the PI Sugar Short are mid-thigh)  These hit about 2" above my knee (I'm 5'3" tall)  They also sit higher on the waist, which is a good thing when cycling for a long time in the sun, but you may or may not like a higher waist.  It isn't super high, but higher than most of my other bike shorts.  3.  The pocket in back is great, but I don't use it because it just isn't in the best place (right in the middle).  Nice to know it's there if I need it, though.

I prefer the seams to be the same color as the shorts (that's just more flattering), but the contrast seams are the trend right now, I guess.  Mine are all one color, but they are a couple years old.

Overall, I would highly recommend these bike shorts.  They are pricey, but if you plan to do some long rides, they are worth it.  I got mine for a really good price, but I'd pay full price for them now that I know how great they are.

Padding good.  At first I thought it didn't work, but discovered I was sitting too far back on the bike.  Padding is in the right places.
Nice surprise is that it supports the thighs and reduces fatigue during and after biking..................Works for me.............

  • 5/24/2010 400 Mike Bike Shorts

rating star By Jo Ann C.

I was having serious issues riding for more than 2 hours.  I thought maybe it was my cycling shorts so I did some research and decided to purchase the 400 Mile Bike Short.  The shorts are stylish, comfortable and I love the pocket in the back.  However, I am not convinced that the chamois is any better than other cycling shorts I have purchased for much less money.  I finally purchased a new bike seat and don't seem to have any more problems.  Therefore, I think my problem was due to the seat not the shorts.

These shorts have a more modern fit.  They sit low in the back on me.  I did wear them for a 5 hours bike ride yesterday and did not have any issues, but I wore a long enough dry fit shirt to tuck in so my backside would not get cold.

The founders of DeSoto are Emilio De Soto and Dan Neyenhuis. Emilio De Soto is a triathlete who is racing in his 27th consecutive season of triathlon competition. He is also fully immersed in his athletic lifestyle as a fitness trainer and coach. Dan Neyenhuis is an age-grouper triathlete who has been helicopter skiing for 20 years. Together, they created a company that designs cutting edge triathlon gear for triathletes, by triathletes.

DeSoto gear is designed to enhance performance in each leg of the race. The founders created the first mesh running cap, zippered tri tops, pocketed tri shorts, transition packs, tri suits, and tri shorts with discreet pads for cycling.

One of their other achievements was creating the DeSoto T1 triathlon wetsuit that is two pieces instead of one. The DeSoto T1 triathlon wetsuit was designed to make a better fit for triathletes, and each year, more DeSoto tri tops and DeSoto tri shorts are being added to the line. DeSoto is still the only company in the world that makes a two-piece triathlon wetsuit.
