The sizing in the internet was different than the box, and sure enough I had to return it for a smaller size. The return was handled well, so I'm a happy customer. As far as how they work, I am a long time swimmer and have used fins for really tough sets for about 10 years, and these fins kick my butt. They are much more work for my leg muscles and seem to target the areas that need more flexibility and strength at the same time. A very good product.
I wear a 9.5EEEE sneaker, so I sized up when ordering the Alpha fins to size L. I am glad I did, as even the size L is very snug. I'm not saying I need help getting them on, but they are snug, and at least while I am breaking them in they leave a pretty prominent mark on my foot and my big toe rubs a bit. The design has an enclosed foot and toe box, and an open heel with molded strap. The strap is not adjustable just in case you were wondering. Very comfortable on the heel and back of ankle, but like the other reviewers said, it runs small. If I had it to do again I would order the XL size. As it is I'll see if they stretch out as I use them. As for the design, I like it. The material used is very floaty and buoyant and light, so they are very much on the surface when you swim. I like the positive flotation they provide, and the added propulsion is good. My other fins are speedo biofuse, and those provide more power and speed. I use the fins for lap swimming. The Alpha's are light in my swim bag, and I feel like I'm not cheating so much when I use them. With my biofuse fins, I fly through the water and my arms are barely needed. With the Alpha's I am a bit faster, I'd say about 20 percent faster than without fins, and my stroke is still useful. For kick laps with a kick-board, I don't think they produce enough umph if you know what I mean. The biofuse are better for kick laps, as they really propel you through the water and your legs will burn. The alphas are more comfortable for freestyle laps and still let you concentrate on your form without making it too easy. A worthwhile addition to your swim bag.
Saw a friend "cheating" with the fins. She sure showed me. I borrowed them for a 200 and WOW what a work out. I think I am still feeling it! I ordered my own that night. My excitement has inspired others to use "cheaters" as well! Worth using for a terrific workout.
I like the light weight and floatability and the shape is better than most other fins for breast stroke. I got booties to prevent rubbing but they aren't necessary for me. Very comfortable and soft. The only downside may be that they keep the feet floating up a bit on the freestyle and you have to work a bit more to get them under. But that may be part of the idea.
They are light weight, fit well & don't hurt my feet. These fins were greatly admired by my swim teacher. I think they have improved my kick and position in the water. Would recommend them to others. Being a beginner in swimming, I need all the help I can get.
I like these because they are very comfortable, lightweight and buoyant. I use these to help develop ankle flexibility and to get a feel of what it's like to swim with proper body alignment and balance. I can see how the integrated straps can be a weak point so when putting these on I make sure to use more than one finger to distribute the force of pulling on the straps prior to slipping my feet in.
