Moving Comfort was created in 1977 by Ellen Wessel, a young woman from Arlington, VA. Wessel took up running and began training for marathons in order to quit a smoking habit. The 26-year-old soon became frustrating by the complete nonexistence of women's running clothes on the market. Along with business partner Elizabeth Goeke, Wessel co-founded Moving Comfort under the mission of designing athletic apparel specifically and exclusively for women.
Over the years, the company grew into one of the leading producers of women's workout gear. In 1996, Wessel and Goeke received the Woman of the Year in Sports Award. In 2008, the two were elected into the Sporting Goods Industry Hall of Fame.
With each of its products, Moving Comfort strives to achieve fit, function, and fabric that are of the highest quality. The result is workout apparel that won't cause pinching, chafing, or other discomfort. One of the company's featured products is the sports bra, which comes in a variety of styles, including the popular "Fiona," "Juno," and "Maia" lines. Unmatched research and development goes into perfecting the fit and stretch of Moving Comfort sports bras in order to cater to women of all sizes.
More than 30 years later, the company operates under the principle that "moving" encompasses all types of activities. This includes everything from walking and running, to skiing and rock climbing, to basketball, volleyball, tennis, and softball — and active women need clothes than can handle any type of movement. Moving Comfort understands and designs clothes for a woman's body, whatever that body was meant to do.
Today, the company remains true to its roots, boasting that every stitch they’ve ever sewn was intended for a woman. Moving Comfort believes if a girl or woman is comfortable when she’s working out, she’s more likely to keep at it. As such, the company views its well-fitting and technically superior garments as a means to encourage women to get fit and stay fit. Moving Comfort dedicates itself to their motto: A fit woman is a powerful woman.
