Very good sound, makes swimming more fun!

Very sleek design, easy to use. Interfase to copy music is also very simple, be sure to include only mp3 songs. Earbuds are Ok once you get used to them, however, if water gets into them, you loose some time trying to get it out to make it sound fine again. Earbuds have this device (harness) to keep them in place... not really neccesary, take them away! I prefer using a swimming cap to keep them tight, it is better a Likra cap, since silicone are too tight and tend to move earbuds.

Correction on Previous Review

Last night I left a very scathing and disappointed review that I now need to correct. I'm changing this from a 1-star review to a 4 star review. The problem I had last night was that right after I put music on it, it shut off and stopped working. The computer wouldn't even recognize it, even after resetting it. A little research uncovered that Aquabeat was made in connection with iRiver and uses iRiver technology. Once I realized that, I guessed that it was having the same problem that my older iRiver player did using the high-speed USB port on my newer laptop! I hit the reset button, plugged it into the 1.0 USB port on my older computer, and VOILA, it worked like a charm! I took it to the pool this morning, and was quite pleased. The headphones DO sound much better underwater, as others have noted. They need that 'water seal' to bring out the sound. If you want it for jogging or kayaking, I'd recommend the smaller, normal-sized ear-bud pieces that come with it. The left-earpiece came loose a couple of times, but I think that's just a matter of 'adjusting'. (I know once I hit it with my arm on an overhead stroke.) I don't wear a swim cap, so the earpieces aren't bound down at all. The buttons are easy to find and press: It's easy to change volume, skip songs, etc, even while treading water. Almost a little TOO easy! I accidently turned the player off when I leaned my head back against the edge of the pool while resting between laps. I'll have to be more careful of that in the future. The other negative is that while it was very easy to fit to my Speedo goggles, it was much harder to fit my Sporti goggles, as they have a much thicker band on them than the Speedos. I'm going to have to pick one pair of goggles instead of switching back and forth.
Bottom line? Having music made a big difference to my swim- allowing me shut out the distractions around me and focus on my breathing, stroke, and form. I love the size of the Aquabeat LZR- it fits well on my goggles and isn't heavy or awkward like of the waterproof mp3 cases out there. I do wish it was less finicky about the computer connection, and it could have saved me a lot of stress if it just SAID it may not work with some high-speed USB ports, but at this point, I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

No Better Player Available Now

Out of all the available units, this is the best. This unit comes with editing software that allows you to sort your music - many other players have no sort capability. This technology is still pretty new and the units occasionally get water in them and stop working pretty quickly. However, SwimOutlet.com is FANTASTIC about replacing any unit that malfunctions within 90 days. THANK YOU SWIMOUTLET.COM - YOU SAVED MY LIFE WITH THIS PLAYER! NOW I CAN SWIM 2 HOURS WITHOUT GETTING BORED!!!

So far very happy with this player

I use the LZR for listening to books while swimming laps in a pool. It takes a little bit of maneuvering to get the ear buds in (and sometimes to keep them in because they do slip from time to time), and a little practice to get used to the buttons (there's a little less flexibility than an iPod) but very satisfactory usability. If you go in knowing it's not the smooth and great experience of an iPod, there are no obstacles that can't be overcome with patience. Earlier reviews by users were very helpful in pointing out tips. I would only add that with the right bathing suit, ladies can slip the player into their suits and not mess with the goggle straps, which can be a little tricky. Too early to speak of durability, but I chose Swim Outlet and a Speedo because I expect them to be reputable companies if I have trouble. I also use it walking to and from the pool, with no trouble.
