A dive mask, also known as scuba mask, is an integral part of the diving experience. It covers the eyes and nose so that snorkelers and divers can see underwater. Masks are usually made out of durable, tempered glass with a silicone "skirt" that presses against the face to create a tight seal. The most important part of a dive mask is the fit. To find your perfect fit, place the mask over your eyes and nose without the strap secured. Inhale gently through your nose to create a vacuum seal. The mask should stay in place when you move your hands. If it doesn't, the mask isn't the right size for you.
Once the right size is determined, you can customize your mask with other features. Some features include anti-fogging, single lens, double lens which is great if you want a prescription mask, and a purge valve. Much like a snorkel's purge valve, the purge valve on a dive mask will allow you to remove the water from your mask without removal. To do this, you would exhale through your nose until the water in your mask escapes through the valve. With so many features, you'll be able to find a great dive mask for your next adventure!
